Sumiji Hara and Minoru Honda Memorial Museum

A memorial museum introducing Sumiharu Hara, who founded the Kurashiki Astronomical Observatory, and Minoru Honda, who discovered many new celestial objects.

The collection includes material on both astronomers and the 32-centimetre reflecting telescope imported from Britain when the observatory opened in 1926. Together, the objects trace efforts to share astronomy with the public and the discovery of comets and novae. Visits require reservations because the museum is normally unstaffed.
